I find this so interesting, I felt a need to point it out. Our baby boomers are turning 60 (though it's the new 40, I am told) and I am struck by the Uranus transits going on now. The baby boomers largely have Uranus in Gemini (roughly 1943 to 1950) and they are going through a Uranus Square (we are at about 20 degrees now, so it's been going for sometime yet) and we begin to see this generation retire.

I have long felt that the perception that baby boomers will be a drain on our society to be a false one. I think we are more likely to find ourselves with a lot of very smart and innovative people with more time on their hands and a new way to make societal changes from outside the system - like they did in their 20, the first Uranus Square we experience in our lives (also going on now for our current 20 somethings - those born roughly between 1982 and 1989). Since these bodies are now in the later degrees of the sign, it will be more intense for those born in the later range of ages. Those earlier in the range may have had these aspects more intensely with in the last few years as it hit their exact degree. Here's what the software says about this aspect:

Uranus Square Uranus
This transit occurs around the age of 20-21 and again in your early to mid-60s. Hence its connection with young adulthood and the age of retirement. It usually brings a desire for freedom, an urge to break away from authority.

If you are in the younger age group, this transit can see a more rebellious energy as you seek greener pastures. Your need for self expression may take over your common sense and you need to beware of taking risks without appropriate discrimination. The more your individual freedom has been oppressed by authority figures, the greater your desire to break free. However, you would do well to strike the right balance between developing your own individual rights and considering the rights of others.

If you are in the older age group this can time can manifest itself more as a need to break free of your responsibilities and to brighten up life. If you have fallen into a rut in the past, you will now feel the urge to break out. Perhaps you feel that you have given a considerable amount of time and energy to your family, work and society. Now it is your turn. For this reason you will consider many new and exciting ventures such as starting again in a different city or country, moving home, or retiring from your life's work. While this is the ideal time to make a move, it is also important that you consider your options carefully.

Now, while this is going on, Saturn and Uranus stand opposed to one another and will stand off the for the next year or more - Uranus won't leave Virgo until July 2010. These two planets together ask us to balance our need for structure in our lives and the desire for freedom we all have. It forces us to look sometimes at the very foundation of our lives and encourages us to make needed changes. Here's what the software says about this one:

Saturn Square Uranus
This can be a time of great tension. You experience less of the tension if you have built your life on a firm foundation with a healthy balance between responsibility and the need for freedom and change. However, if you have allowed your life to become stuck in tired, rigid routines, this period can be very upsetting. Any area of your life that has become stuck in a rut is open to challenge and you will find it best to face the challenge of changing old patterns and embrace new and exciting plans.

Each of the above aspects apply to our 60 something baby boomers and our 20 somethings (and it was the case when our 60 something WERE 20 something - think of the first time the baby boomers tried to change the world from outside the system in the 1960s). Where the difference now comes in largely is how Neptune is working in the different generations:

20s - Neptune Conjunction Pluto
During this time you may feel disoriented as you feel impelled to deeply question long-held beliefs. You may find yourself suddenly exploring the deeper meaning of life as never before. It is possible that your life will change in ways which could not have been foreseen. Perhaps you will experience the death of someone close to your heart, or it may be simply that you feel that something has metaphorically died in your life. A near-death experience, either your own or someone else's, may deeply affect you. Either way you may start to question life after death, and other spiritual matters. You may also have psychic experiences. It is possible for you to find both creative and spiritual avenues to satisfy your yearning for greater meaning. This will help you avoid the feelings of confusion which seem to arise from deep within. Ultimately this transit will help you discover inner resources which you did not realize existed.

60s - Neptune Trines Uranus
This is a positive time of opportunities to embrace more excitement in your life. You have the spiritual strength to take risks which will bring you closer to your dreams. This is a particularly good time for metaphysical pursuits, or any activity which uses your own unique talents.

Ah, the gift of maturity. It's important for us all, no matter what age we are, to understand that this is just our curriculum for this life. Some of our projects we do alone and some are group projects. For while these things affect us individually in our day to day life, these kinds of generational aspects can change the whole face of the world. It's a fantastic and exciting time to be alive as we stand poised for the changes and improvements that we can make as a society and each generation has it's role. We've got 2 years left of these powerful energies helping us manifest change. Let's make the most of them!

Peace everybody!
Carole
